Luke explains that their main aim is to manufacture quality products in a sustainable way, aiming to achieve and maintain zero carbon footprint. What is MCL Components all about? What products and services do you offer?
At MCL, our focus is on the design, development and manufacture of plastic injection moulded products. We manufacture products for packaging, toys, agriculture, construction and health & fitness. Our objective is to design and manufacture great products and to do this is the most sustainable way possible, where our target is to achieve and maintain zero carbon footprint.
What are MCL Components’ top values, in 3 words?

What are the main initiatives which MCL Components is working on in terms of the green transition? Are any such initiatives targeted at a particular industry, such as the manufacturing industry for example?
Yes, one of main projects at the moment is the ‘Pathway to Net-ZERO’ project which is explained below.
In your opinion, how can private companies like yourselves participate or contribute to making Malta more sustainable?
It needs to be a top priority. That is where it starts. Once it’s on a company’s agenda, the initiatives will follow.
Are you seeing any trends or a conscious shift in client habits and demands which promote more sustainable practices in projects or products?
Awareness has increased, but – unfortunately – it is still not a top priority. More needs to be done in this sector.
Do you have any concluding remarks and messages which you would like to share with the Green Deal Malta community, in particular perhaps regarding sustainable manufacturing?
In our experience, sustainable manufacturing is a journey that starts as a peripheral initiative and then changes to become a central part of every decision. Once that is achieved, the initiatives and possibilities are boundless.
We initially thought that energy neutrality was an ambitious target, but once we achieved it, we realised it was only the beginning.
